Customer Review: A great game but could have had more

I'm a huge fan of Creatures and have all of the main games (1,2,3 and DS). Creatures Exodus is a compilation of Creatures 3 and Creatures Docking Station. Both were good games, and Creatures 3 was a dramatic improvement from Creatures 2. If your interested in trying out this game you can download DS for free from Creature Labs official website.



Now, there are a few problems with this release that caused me to rate it as four stars. DS and Creatures 3 were the first games to offer additional content that you purchased though an online store (Creatures Mall). Since Creatures Lab disbanded, this content has been unavailable to late comers. It's a shame that most of this content isn't offered in Exodus. You get the standard set of Creatures 3 Norns along with the Chichi, Harlequin, and Fallow Norn. If you go to the official website you can get the Magma Norns for free. That means Exodus is missing the Banshee Grendels, Treehugger Norns, Toxic Norns, Astro Norns, Hardman Norns, Zebra Norns, Bondi Norns, and the Siamese Norns. That's a lot of content we're missing!

My husband, daughter and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Philadelphia Chickens so we figured we should try another one of these CD's. Well, sadly this was a big let down. I thought it would be more rock and roll and it was more like alternative rock and roll or something else entirely. It was weird.

There were a few songs worth listening to, but overall we don't like it and will probably never listen to it again. I am going to try Rhino Tap next. I hope it's better than this was.

Just when you think you know everything there is to know about kids and the kind of antics they're capable of, they do something to completely throw you off...balance.

I now know why God made children. I now know why we grow up being so cute, making the adults coo over us and melt like butter in a hotpot. I now know why parents are prone to tripping all over themselves to satisfy every whim and fancy of their children, even if they lose an arm and a leg for it.

I am one such parent.

Can you imagine what my reaction was when I was working on a very important article one afternoon and Joshua was jumping off the bed with his arms flapping or flailing around wildly. I was shocked and asked very whimsically, Josh, what do you think youre doing?. He smiled gleefully and answered me very innocently, Mommy, I am a bird, mommy.

I just couldnt hide my smile. All that crazy flapping was because he was pretending to be a bird? Gee, shouldve known better than to ask, isnt it, Marsha? What next, Josh? Well, nothing beats the next incident, of course.

I was eating my dinner, after feeding the kids. Jared was bouncing around with his cousins in the living room and I was trying to see if I could stuff half a plate into my mouth without tearing my lips apart because Jared was just about to jump off the piano. However, as I got up from the chair, I spotted Joshua under Jareds high chair. He had an empty plate infront of him and he had his face plastered in the middle. There was some gobbling noises coming from him too.

Silently, I got behind him (without him knowing) and watched him.

He lifted his head for a while, huffed and puffed a little and then placed his face back into the plate. I tapped him lightly on his shoulder and asked him, crouching to his level. Josh, what are you doing?.

I am playing, mommy

He smiled seeing that his antics got me tickled Yeah, I am an anteater To illustrate his point, he huffed, puffed and made a sort of breathing noise (hes assuming anteaters do that cause hes never heard an anteater before, neither have I) and put his face back into the plate again.

Thats Josh. In the meantime, my younger son is no less funny. Compared to Josh, Jared is outgoing and knows precisely which buttons to push and when to push it. I am dead serious when I say this because this boy knows how to put out my fire as quickly as how to start one.

Even if he blew up the house, he knew how to get himself out of trouble, no problem at all. There was one time I took him to the toilet to answer natures call (big call) and he simply refused to. The moment I brought him back out, he did his big business in the living room.

I was mad as mad can be and shouted for quite a bit. I smacked his cute little behind and said, No no, Jed naughty. Jed mmnn-mmnn in the toilet dont want. Erm-erm in the living room. No, naughty. With huge, bulging, watering eyes, he stared at me without making a noise. I ran out of things to rant about and he spotted his chance to kill the fire.

He gave his two ears a tug and stuck his tongue out like his tongue was connected to his ears or something. I couldnt control the rumble of laughter that reverberated through my body and he knew he won the war. He knew the anger has dissipated. However, as much as I tried to maintain the angry stance, he knew he won and would just do something as silly and funny as that to make me un-angry.

Josh is a very innocent and straightforward kind of guy, you know, the typical TV channel surfing, burping, farting, hibernating kind of guy. But Jed is different. He is cheeky, smart and extremely mischievous. He has ways of getting what he wants and even if he was wrangling something out of your grasp, he can make you think that you gave the toy willingly to him. Such is my second son.

I looked at Joshs old pictures and remembered Josh being just as silly too. The time will never come around again. Josh will never be the baby he was again and Jared (thinner now) will never be the sumo-wrestler I adored again. I still love them both doubtlessly, but its a different kind of love now.

Doesnt matter, I have my anteater and ear-puller to keep my hands full, huh?

I bought the scale in September 2007 and have been using it for our newborn baby. I really like the looks, it's sturdy and has a large easy readable digital display. With one touch on a button you can switch between lbs and kgs, even when using. We really like the fact that we can also use the scale with our other children. I had a rubiks snake when I was younger and my daughter found this one for me for Christmas. I had nearly forgotten how much fun it was. But the best part was sharing something with my daughter and teacher her something new. She loves making a ball with the snake/twist. This rubiks twist puts up with alot of use and abuse. How to Get Your Kids to Pick Up Their Toys

Every night found me nagging my kids for the same thing: "You guys, look at your room. Get your toys picked up right now!"

I didn't understand it. They would have their room picked up, but a few hours later, it would be messy again. Toys all over the floor, blankets on the floor. Toys in the hallway; toys downstairs.

I definitely was getting tired of looking at the mess, tired of stepping on Legos, but it was more than that. I was aggravated that they didn't appreciate what they had!

When I was growing up, we had only a few toys. I took good care of those toys - I still have my Tinker Toys in the original metal can with the included instruction book - and I'm 37!

My parents didn't have to nag me all the time - I don't think - to pick up my toys. I know that I appreciated them because they were so few and far between.

My kids have been less fortunate in that respect - tons of toys from Grandparents and relatives for Christmas.

Toys that move, make noises, and you name it.

They definitely don't appreciate the abundance of toys that they have. So, I figured that I'd teach them what it's like to appreciate them or they wouldn't get to have any!

One day I told them that every time I stepped on a toy, or had to pick up pieces of a set, or had to pick up something that was left out, it was going in the trash.

And that's what I did. But it didn't work.

You see, they ended up having ALL their toys in the trash. It was annoying because there wasn't anything left to play with when other kids came over.

And it still didn't solve the problem of not appreciating what they had.

They didn't even have time to miss the toys - they didn't have to. It was only a short while before the next birthday or holiday brought in a new batch of them.

So, with my thinking cap on, I came up with my next plan of attack - a sticker and reward chart system.

They were excited, thrilled, and motivated. When they got up in the morning, they'd do all the things on their chart, anxious to have the boxes filled up with stickers.

But, stickers and reward charts only work once a day! When the "my toys are picked up" box has a sticker, the rest of the day went down the tube.

And, it didn't work to just give stickers at bedtime. They had no motivation to pick up during the day, and it became a nightmare divvying out all the stickers when bedtime already dragged on longer than it should!

So, I gave up for awhile. The lecture method didn't work, the "tossing toys" method didn't work, and the reward chart didn't work the way I wanted it too.

My kids were messy and unappreciative, and I needed to do something about it - fast.

My friend Judi didn't have that problem. Her kids got out one toy at a time - even when company was over - and put up that toy before getting out the next. When it was time to leave their house, it was a snap to clean up with just one toy per child.

She had all these little boxes and containers for their toys with little pieces, so I thought that maybe that was the secret.

On my next trip to Walmart, I bought some containers to hold the toys; and a big box that held some community toys.

Unfortunately all that changed was that I now had empty containers in the kids room with toys on the floor.

So, one day, I finally asked Judi, "How do you get your kids to keep their toys picked up?"

"Well, you know," she said, "I used to go crazy with all the toys everywhere that never got put up - hurting my feet from stepping on them...until we started to use the 'Saturday box'."

"What's a Saturday box?" I asked.

"It's just a container that we have, and every time a toy is left out, it goes into the Saturday box. Then they have to wait until Saturday to get their toys back."

"Ohhhh..." I said. A new concept that hadn't occurred to me before!

"And, the great thing about it," Judi continued, "is that they can still see the toys all week. That way they know what they're missing - that solved our 'out-of-sight-out-of-mind' problem."

I just nodded with agreement and understanding - I was totally following her.

So, back to Walmart. :-)

I got each kid a container with three drawers to keep their small toys. I explained to each of them that they could only play with one toy or set at a time. I made it very clear that if anything was left out, it would go into the Saturday box.

Their eyes were wide with amazement.

They knew Mommy was serious.

So, the first day went without incident. Then, on the 2nd, there was the first infraction.

"Maegan," I told her, "you left out a Polly Pockets. It needs to go into the Saturday box."

Now, she is only three years old; but she understood. We put the toy in the Saturday box - a clear plastic container on the kitchen counter.

EVERY day she was asking me if it was "Saturday". Fortunately for her, we had started mid-week so she only had 2 days to wait.

The boys ended up with a few toys in there too.

Can you draw a straight line? Most adults dont consider themselves artistic. Parents do, however, worry about their toddlers art abilities. As a child care provider for the past 10 years, Ive had many discussions with parents about how their toddler is doing as far as getting ready for preschool or kindergarten. They worry a lot about the final product of their toddlers art projects. I try to explain to them that art is not just knowing how to draw a flower or a puppy, or whether or not little Jason colors in the lines. Little kids need to experience self-expression and the doing of art more than having a page from a coloring book to hang on the refrigerator.

When a two-year old puts his chubby little hand in a tub of finger paint and happily smears all of the colors together on the paper or when he makes yet another snowman out of play-doh, hes creating. Granted, he will certainly tell you that his painting is his dads truck even though you just cant see it. The important thing to remember is that by allowing our little kids to experience art in their own way, we let them show us how they see the world around them, how they feel and think.

I always enjoy art time with my toddler and preschool age groups. Yeah, they can make a mess, but they just wiggle with excitement when I take out the arts & crafts tub of supplies! Having been a military wife and lived in a few different places, Ive always returned to providing home day care. As a result, Ive had to make do with whatever space I can find in the various homes weve lived in. Theres not always a lot of room, but art can take place just about anywhere. Ive found that the activity is most effective when its pre-planned and when Ive set goals for the activity.

Art is important for toddlers because of the way it makes little kids feel special and good about themselves. When your toddler finishes a magazine cut-out collage and holds up his masterpiece to you with that beaming smile doesnt that make you feel good about both of you? Through creating simple art projects, that same toddler is not only learning to take pride in his accomplishments, but also to think and refine his hand-eye coordination and physical skills. Through art, children learn to identify colors, cause-and-effect, shapes, problem solving, sharing and cooperation among many other skills.

Parents must remember to ask toddlers or preschoolers questions about their projects that will make them think about what theyve made rather than ask them What is that? For example, C.J., tell Mommy about your painting. C.J will start to talk about his work or anything else he feels important at the time! This also shows your child that you are interested in what he thinks and arent just confused about what you see! Make sure to hang the art work up in a prominent place in your home so the entire family can enjoy it.

Art experiences are a major part of a toddlers daily activities. They have grown enough to grasp objects and tear paper and hold crayons and brushes. Naturally they are thrilled with the anticipation of a new art project, and most importantly, with the quality time spent with the important adults in his/her life.

I have seen Juice many times and it is still as powerful as the first time. Bishop, Quincy (Q), Raheem and Eric (Steel) are four very different friends looking for respect, they call it juice. They skip school and spend their days hustling at the pool hall and hiding from truant officers. I was so excited to get these scinse all the kids in my age group, 8-12 (I am 11)have heelys. These were extremely hard and I eventrally gave up and left them in our closet for two months. But today, that all changed. My bff taught me how to use them, since she has some, too. (along with five other kids in my neighborhood) So I know how to use them now. This little turtle is great for our one 10 week old child. We turn the turtle on at bedtime and he just can't keep his eyes off all the stars around the room. Blue stars show up best, green a close second and the amber stars are a little fainter. I think it all depends on your paint color on your walls and the amount of ambient light in the room. I bought this video along with the CPR video because I plan on doing some day care in my home and wanted to brush up on my skills. I have taken First Aid and CPR courses in the past but had forgotten a lot of things. The video was very helpful and covered many things. Here is one handheld gaming system that both parents and kids will be able to agree upon. The Leapster Learning Game System takes the brain-building principles that Leapfrog laid out in its early electronic learning devices (which have an interactive book format) and applies them to a video-game format. Leapster draws kids in with familiar video game templates—all of which have a secret weapon: a built-in learning component. LeapFrog hopes that kids will become so engaged in the gaming aspects and familiar television and movie characters offered by this toy that they won't even notice they're learning and reinforcing valuable reading, math, and language skills.

With the Leapster Learning System children can play games, read books, create art, and watch videos.

Aimed at kids ages 4 to 10 years, the 6-by-4-inch Leapster is sized for little hands and comfortably shaped with safe, rounded edges. The 2.25-inch touch screen is ample for most of the gaming activities; although a little cluttered when used for the art and drawing modules. Buttons are suitably placed on either side of the unit for thumb-operated control. The right side features "A" and "B" buttons for selecting settings and answers, while the left has a multi-directional gamepad for game play. A stylus is also attached for drawing, selecting tools and settings, and dragging and placing objects. The 3-inch backlit display makes games visible in the dark (although parents will prefer that the Leapster is shut off at bedtime) and the animated graphics, while not completely state-of-the-art, are well done and suitable for this age range.

As with the manufacturer's LeapPad products, the Leapster does require the purchase of additional cartridges to expand its capabilities. Kids can choose from a star-studded list of their favorite characters to play educational games with, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Thomas the Tank Engine, Dora the Explorer, Nemo, Cinderella, Batman, and more. Leapfrog's own cartoon star, Tad, narrates a few as well. While stocking up on the extra software titles can get expensive, it gives parents some control and input on which characters they'd like their kids to learn from. Plus, characters for these titles are appropriately matched to the maturity of the targeted grade level (pre-K through 4th grade).

This handheld system is a perfect fit for small hands and easily portable.

Starting up or hitting the Home button takes players to the main menu. There is one pre-loaded game that children will likely come back to again and again. Rabbit River is based on the Frogger game format but with an additional learning element. In letters mode, kids guide their bunny to hop floating logs to the other side of the river while jumping on specific letters to identify them or spell out a requested 3- or 4-letter word. In numbers mode, the bunny must land on specific numbers on the logs to skip count by twos or form a correct equation. Another pre-loaded activity is Color Corral, an interactive coloring book designed to boost creative problem-solving skills. This module is like a kid's version of Photoshop and offers a variety of scenic templates, colors, tools, and moving icons that kids can combine for an infinite number of possibilities. The included manual gives suggestions on how to reinforce these math, reading, and art concepts in the real world.

Each game offers multiple skill levels so kids can ease into new territory at the beginner level, then challenge themselves with more advanced learning problems as they understand the concept. If kids are stumped at any point during a game, they can hit the Hint button and receive a friendly push in the right direction from an animated tutor, Edison the firefly. Edison also appears automatically if kids answer a question incorrectly several times in a row and coaches the child to reach the correct answer. The Pause button lets kids stop the game for a snack break and pick back up again where they left off.

Designed for portability, the Leapster fits easily in a backpack or tote bag and is ideal for more purposeful edutainment on the go, whether a quick game on the bus to school or hours of playtime during vacation travel. This learning system runs on four AA batteries or on a rechargeable battery pack when combined with the Leapster L-Max Recharging System (sold separately).

Santa brought this to my five year old last Christmas, however my little one has just turned two and she amazed her pediatrician last week by playing with this (and refusing to have any part of her physical exam.) She understands it, her fine motor skills are excellent and she has a lot of fun painting, changing colors, shapes etc. It holds her attention for a lot longer than toys aimed at her age group. Only problem is now I have to buy another one because of the Screaming Not Sharing issue, but as my husband says, I just had to have a third child...

One fantastic way to get your children involved in what they are eating, is to have them help. A great way to start is to let them make up their lunch for the next day. Obviously you will need to set some guidelines. For example, when I turned 9 I was allowed to make up my own lunch. In my girlfriends houses they were 10 and in some others 11. However, we all felt very important and grown up that we were allowed to make up our own lunch. Again, my mom had certain guidelines. We had to pick a lunch meat, fruit or yogurt and bread to put it on (white, wheat, rye or a roll; today wraps are another alternative). As I got older however, I cut down to a half sandwich as I found I didnt always finish a full sandwich. I continue to eat lunch this way today, a half sandwich and some fruit.

Large meals make people full and sleepy, and they cut down on employees productiveness. Think of what large meals do to your children at school. We want our children alert so that they can learn, not falling asleep at their desks, so lets keep those lunches on the lighter side. You can do this if you provide them with a good breakfast.

By working beside your children and discussing what they eat for lunch (healthy protein, fruit, veggie and healthy carbs) you are helping them to understand the importance of whole foods and the avoidance of junk foods. You are helping them to learn and make smart informed choices and as they get older these good habits will stay with them. They will learn that these types of food will help them feel better and look better, give them more energy. Try to drop the phrase healthy foods from your vocabulary and let them see that the food choices they are making will help them feel so much better. Put the emphasis on how their body is feeling and all the energy they have rather than that food is bad for you, why dont you eat this healthy food.

I know of one family that actually had the food pyramid on their bulletin board in their kitchen and it helped them to pick out what foods they wanted. Their mom actually let them help plan not only their lunch meals, but the meals during the week also. Everyone got a chance to decide what to eat on certain nights. Again, however, the caveats were there about food choices. They had to pick a protein, vegetable, carbohydrate and fruit. By keeping the food pyramid handy her kids got to see what was available. I also remember her taking out pictures of the various meats (beef, pork, chicken) so they could see what they looked like. In addition, she had a book available with recipes of chicken and rice, corn beef and cabbage, standing rib roast, etc. The book also had the different kinds of vegetables and recipes for different ways to prepare them. It also included different types of salads, lunch meats, breads and fruits. All of the recipes had pictures of what the food looked like. She usually baked a cake or pie over the weekend and they got to have a dessert other than fruit, Jell-O, pudding or fruit cup on Saturday and Sunday.

Unlike today, when we grew up we played outside, rode our bikes, ran around, roller skated, and the list goes on and on. We didnt have computers or computer games. So in addition to the above healthy eating choices you need to plan some activities for your children today other than the television or video games. This is a topic however, for a future article.
