Dating Your Spouse: Planning an evening on the town--no kids

When was the last time you went out on a real date with your significant other? And no, a real date doesnt mean taking the kids to the movies with you and sitting them in the front row, while you sit five rows back to cuddle, eat popcorn, and share a large soda. If your date nights have consisted of squeezing in a little time while the kids play or go off to bed then its time to dust off your dancing shoes and find a sitter!

Spending time with your better half can not only save your marriage, but bring it back to life. To add a little spark to the romance department of your marriage, follow these simple steps to a romantic evening the two of you will never forget:

1.Find a sitter. If you cant afford to hire a sitter because money is too tight, enroll the help of a trusted friend or family member. If you feel guilty, offer to swap sitter duties.
2.Listen to your spouse. What is your better half constantly wishing she could do? Is that something you can turn into an evening of fun?
3.Ask your spouse out on a date. Dont just tell your loved one that you two are going out without the kids, get romantic and ask her out on a date.
4.Buy a gift. Is there something your loved one has been eyeing but just couldnt justify buying? Is it in your cash only budget? If it is, buy it. If its not, find something comparable and unique, then wrap it up in a real elegant box, tie a ribbon around it, and place a bow on the top.
5.Handwrite a love note. Hallmark is famous for offering cards that pull on ones heartstrings. If you cant think of something romantic to say on your own, spend a little time in the card section and find the perfect card to say it for you. But dont just sign your name to the card, adlib by writing a few extra special lines to personalize that card for your spouse.
6.Make reservations. Dont head out to the local chain restaurant for a meal; you can do that any day. Instead, call ahead and make reservations to some place new. Is there a local resort in the area? How about a private club?
7.Dress elsewhere. Tell your spouse youll be back to pick her up, then head on over to your friends house to get ready.
8.Surprise your date. When its time to pick up your spouse, surprise her by coming to the door with a bouquet of flowers and/or box of chocolates. (Save the gift and card for later.)
9.Dont talk shop. When you finally make it out of the house, dont talk about the kids, work, school, finances, health problems, or anything else that could add stress or put a damper on the evening. Talk about fun, no-nonsense things instead.
10.Share a dessert. Order your spouses favorite dessert and two forks, and then intertwine those arms and offer a bite to one another.
11.Bring out the finale. If youre really adventurous, get down on one knee, look your spouse in the eyes, and tell her how much your life together means to you while handing over that beautifully gift-wrapped box. If thats a bit too mushy for you, just reach across the table, grab your spouses hands, tell her how much you love her and then say, Oh wait, I have something for you. And pop out that gift.
12.Go dancing. Have you always wanted to try salsa dancing? What about line dancing? Now is the time to try something new, youll laugh so hard that its the perfect way to end the evening. Cant find a themed dance studio in your area? Thats okay, just boogie the night away at your local dance club.

Lilo & Stich is such a lovely film! It tells the highly original story of a little Hawaiian girl who is orphaned encountering an experimental creature from outerspace and quickly befriending it. The animation is exquisite and the voice cast are on top form throughout both the comedic and adventurous elements of the story. The music is magnificent and very fitting to the film as most of it is Hawaiian influenced and features Hawaiian singers and instruments. An excellent if often overlooked Disney film that will touch your heart and also leave you with a smile on your face by the end.

Our boy loves these. We can make healthy treats that equal a glass of juice. They work great, you just hold them under hot water a minute to loosen the shell and the bottom part holds the drips. Its impossible to eat the last inch of popsicle in the holder, so we just break it into a bowl.

I love Melissa and Doug products, but lately they have not included their usual plastic sliding lid over their products. This makes storing this stamp set much more difficult. We have the dinosaur stamp set which has the cover and nothing falls out of it. I wish they would return to including the cover!

This book was wonderful and a tool I'll use with my 9-year old son again! Rainy Day Fun For Kids!

Need something fun for the kids to do on a rainy
day?

Make your own play dough and finger paints for
hours of creative fun!

Play Dough

Mix 2 cups flour
2 cups salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
in a saucepan.

Gradually add: 2 cups water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
small amount of paste food coloring
of your choice

Cook and stir over low heat for 3 minutes or so,
until mixture sticks together.

Turn onto board and knead until smooth and of play
dough consistency.

This will keep for several months and can be used
over and over if you store it in an airtight
container in the fridge.

Remember finger painting when you were young?
It's so messy, but it can be a real treat for your
children on a rainy day.

Homemade Finger Paints

Soak 1 envelope of unflavoared gelatin in 1/4 cup
warm water. Set aside.

Stir together 1/2 cup cornstarch
3 tablespoons sugar
in a saucepan and gradually stir in:
2 cups water
Cook and stir over low heat until blended.

Remove from heat and add softened gelatin.
Divide mixture into individual containers for each
color you want.

For each color, add a drop of liquid detergent first,
and then add food coloring a drop at a time.

This will keep for several weeks in the fridge.

Bought this as a Christmas gift for our niece and nephew, 5 and 4 years old. They loved it. I loved it. My husband loved it. Their mom loved it. It was ready to go the second we got it out of the box.



The little play tools are fun - big hits with the younger set were the ability to grow and cut "hair" from a small plastic head, the many colors of dough included with the set, and all the little rolling pins and cutouts available. These things were fun for us, as well, but possibly the best toy from the adult point of view was the small piece of plastic, shaped like a kind of meat pounder, that is flat on the bottom and allows one to easily pick up small pieces of playdoh from flat surfaces. Its like a playdoh magnet. Very cool.

What a great, fun album! Our 23 month old has been listening to it for about 6 months now, and loves to speak along to it. Different songs are favorites at different times. My husband and I think it is catchy and fun for us, too. If your toddler is going to demand songs be repeated "one more time" as our does, these are songs you can listen to, too, "one more time" ad infinitum (almost). You even learn to sing the alphabet backward!

We were supposed to make our trek up to Mt Hood for our annual Christmas tree hunt, but it looks like we may have to delay it. Marriage, Divorce, and Kids

Its been said that one of the problems that married couples have today is that men tend to choose their wives the same way they choose their cars or trucks.

They get the best one available and hope that theres not much maintenance down the road.

While this may occasionally be true, there are certain practices that married couples must follow in order to avoid adding to a divorce rate that hovers around 50%. These are practices that are essential not only for the success of their marriage, they are essential for the well-being of our children.

In Maggie Gallaghers book, The Abolition of Marriage, she states that, Half of all children will witness the breakup of a parents marriage. Of these, close to half will also see the breakup of a parents second marriage.

Can we possibly continue with a system that allows half of our children to witness the breakup of their parents marriage? Is a divorce rate near 50% enough to have us consider new ideas about how we decide about marriage and divorce?

One logical place to start is to educate people about the qualities of a successful marriage.

We cant be effective when we educate them two months before they marry. Emotional intelligence skills and relationship skills must be taught to our young people early in life.

When we do teach them about successful relationships, we should include these qualities:

1.CommitmentAccording to one definition, commitment is a freely chosen inner resolve to follow through with a course even though difficulty arises. How do we show our children what to do when difficulty arises? Do we move to where the grass is greener? Commitment is a daily discipline. Its the core from which we respond to difficulty. Its what makes our lives richer and deeper.

2.Emotional AwarenessIf we know whats really bothering us, we can have effective and meaningful conversations with our spouse. We can be genuine, honest, and open with each other. And we can discover that much of the pain we feel in our relationship is actually our past emotional history coming back to haunt us.

If youre planning on getting married someday, be aware of what your emotional issues are. And if you dont know what your issues are, you may be the most likely candidate for a divorce down the road.

3.Be Kind, Not RightWe tend to have a tremendous stake in showing our loved ones that were right. An enormous amount of time is wasted in our relationships by arguing over whos right or wrong.

This excessive arguing is just an indication of our low self-esteem. A much easier and more effective way to be in a relationship is to commit to kindness. When youre kind, you dont need to be right. And its much easier for others to be with you!

There certainly are both justifiable divorces and well-done divorces that are respectful of the kids involved. But the number of divorces involving childish and irresponsible decisions based on self-interest is staggering.

Children deserve more than this. To allow a system to continue that has half of our kids witnessing their parents divorce is to turn our backs on our most precious commodity.

Its time to consider alternatives. Lets look at how we can spend more time educating and training young people about relationship skills and emotional intelligence. Lets look at the fact that in about 80% of the divorces in this country, only one of the participants (usually the woman) wants to end the marriage. Can we keep no-fault divorce as it is?

And most importantly, lets look at our own attitudes about commitment and decide what we want to do.

Because the cost of not doing these things is beyond measure.

I bought the smallest kit available to see if my 10 year old would like it for his birthday. Wow! KIDS NEED GOALS project arrives in Slovakia


Saturday 11th of June was Kids Need Goals day, sponsored by Time4sharing.org, the timeshare charity that creates fun days for underprivileged kids.

They invited 40 children from Bernolkovo to spend a day with a star members from the Slovak Football Association.

In December 2004, members of Slovak National Football team were awarded the title Goodwill ambassadors for less fortunate children from Slovak orphanages. This way Time4sharing.org and Slovak Football players became partners in making childrens dreams come true and started with a program created by World Class Vacation Club, entitled: Kids Need Goals.

Sporting Saturday started early in the morning with an authentic football training and continued with a football match, whereby each team had its own professional coach. Mr. Tittel, Tomaschek and Jancula the fantastic ex-slovak footbal players showed children how to play and gave them football advices how to become a good player.


After a time spent on the football grass a bus of good will took children to the swimming pool in Aquathermal Senec, where everybody enjoyed a lot of water games and fun. Volunteers from Platinum International were on hand to share their time and joy.Project Coordinator Petra Reisova said that organizations should take their example from the Slovak national team, who are first class sponsors and real role models for the country and the children. Organizers also benifited from volunteers who have timeshare jobs with Platinum International.


Time4sharing.org is the brainchild of a formally childless couple, Mike and Vivian Tolan who, after eight years of exhaustive attempts to become parents, finally after considering adoption, suddenly had twins, and in celebration and gratitude, began this work.

The charity that gives Fun to less fortunate Kids that Matter has created magical fun days for over 10,000 children in 100 events over the past four and half years through their main sponsor, Platinum International in Malta, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lebanon, and the Arabian Gulf.

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter. She is very careful with all her toys so I figured a cute "adult" like camera would be good for her. It is a nice camera and has been used a lot. She loves it and makes her feel grown up...especially when she gets to download them onto the computer and use the software to work with them. The only complaint I had was you don't get to see the pictures until they are downloaded and the pictures can be easily deleted. However, this is a childs camera for only a few bucks you can't beat it. I would buy it again.

Customer Review: Cracked the first time used

Received this as a Christmas gift, as I had expressed an interest in making pizza from scratch. Today I decided to use it for the first time, to heat up a frozen pizza. Per the instructions, I put the frozen pizza on the room temperature stone before putting in the oven. The instructions had no specific information about how long to to let them sit so I waited about 2 minutes before putting into a preheated 425 degreee F oven. The stone cracked about 3-4 minutes after putting in oven.



I guess if I had to do it again I'd let the pizza sit for 10 - 15 minutes before putting in the oven (even though the pizza instructions tell you not to thaw first), and I might also forego the preheating. Disappointing.

We have four Putt Putt games: Enters the Race, Travels through Time, Goes to the Moon and Saves the Zoo. I like this one the best of all, it requires a little more thinking (I think) than Saves the Zoo, which I also like. Debunking the Myth About Bottled Water: Is It Really Safer for Your Kids?


When you actually sit down and think about it, bottled water
companies do something really peculiar. They sell a product
freely available to every man, woman, and child in every
home - water. And they sell it very, very successfully.

Bottled water in America comprises a multi-billion dollar
industry and growing. In fact, its the fastest growing
segment of the beverage industry. And why is that?

Bottled water advertising gives many people the impression
that it's safer for them and their kids to drink. Companies
convince you to hand over your money for their product at
the store by showing images of crystal clear water in ads
and commercials, which have you believing their water
provides higher quality than what comes out of the faucet at
home.

Well, Ive got some not-so-good news. Most bottled drinking
water, at best, is as good as tap water. In fact, in the
month of March in 1999, the National Resources Defense
Council reported that over 40% of bottled water comes from
city water systems, just like tap water. So in this case,
you're unnecessarily paying for tap water wrapped in a
bottle, label, and lid, not higher quality water from some
natural spring.

Here's another eye opener: Companies who bottle and sell
water are under the same regulations and purity standards as
city water systems if they sell their water across state
lines. The key phrase being "across state lines".

Most companies get around those watchful government eyes by
only selling their water within the same state they have it
bottled! Because when they do that, they are pretty much
unregulated by government agencies. So the next time you go
the supermarket look on the label and see where it was
bottled. More than likely, you'll see the same state you're
currently residing in.

Here's what this all means:

City water systems that provide tap water have to test for
water pathogens that can cause intestinal problems in your
children, like diarrhea. Bottled water companies don't have
to do this.

City tap water has to meet a specific standard for some
toxic, potentially cancer-causing chemicals. Bottled water
isn't held to the same standard.

City water systems must inform you about what in the water
they offer you every year. Bottled water companies actively
resisted the same requirement for their water, and they
continue to resist this and other policies that require them
to be subjected to stricter regulations and be more upfront
with you, the public. And the list goes on.

Bottled water companies don't deliberately try to put the
health of you and your children at risk. Nor do they
outright lie to you about the safety of their water.

But if you think drinking bottled water will spare you from
any possible illness associated with contaminants found in
tap water, you're buying on blind faith. And joining
millions of people who make many companies billions of
dollars based on an unproven premise. When it comes to your
kids' health, why take a chance? And why waste your money?

My daughter loves this video because she loves music plus Sesame characters. I think the video is too short, it seems to be over way more quickly than other DVDs we have and leaves her wanting more.

We are extremely happy with our underwater camera. We have taken super pictures of our 3 year old granddaughter swimming underwater. While some of the pictures didn't turn out it was because we were aiming down at the bottom of the pool. It's not professional quality but at the price it was worth just the fun of playing with our granddaughter.

Why are kids asking the "How-long" - question? Well, first of all, because they're bored and annoyed. But it's also hard for children to understand a distance of 500 miles or a period of 10 hours. So when you're planning your trip, just make a simple map for your children, displaying your home, the target and important points in between. Add some pencils or crayons and point out when you're passing the marking points. This way, your kids have an overview of where you are and adding drawings will keep them busy. Later on, you can put the maps in your holiday album for souvenir. Keep in mind to make a map for each child.

If your child doesn't mind sleeping in the car, you can consider travelling during the night. That can buy you some peace during the ride, at the cost that you're tired when you arrive at your destination. If you have a spaciuos car, like a van, you can use some pillows and blankets to turn it into a cozy place.

Entertainment electronics can make your trip a lot easier. A game boy can keep a child occupied for a very long time, and you can even get a small, portable tv / vcr combination for a reasonable price. You can bring your kids' favourite videos and they'll probably be fine for the entire trip. When it comes to music, you should consider that you'll have to listen to it also, so make sure you can stand the constant repetition of child songs. Otherwise, a walkman might do the job.

A major problem with playing in the car is the very limited space. Toys easily fall down and slide under seats, so you have to stop in order to pick it up again. A tray like the ones used in fast-food-restaurants may help there: it supplies a solid, even surface that can be used as a foundation for eating or as a playground. Childrens' imagination is still vivid, so a plain plastic tray can turn easily into a setting for the favourite action hero's next adventure. If you have a family, you should get rid of the idea of having a car to impress and rather trade it for something spacious and comfortable. It might be hard at first, but later on you'll be thankful for the extra space that helps getting through even a long trip without too much disturbance.
